Students may be required to take a leave from their studies and attendance at the University in the rare circumstances where it is determined through a risk assessment process that a student may be at severe risk of harm to self and/or others, or severe disruption to the teaching and learning environment or University community (see Assessment and Treatment Care Plan Policy). The student may be on leave until such time that the risk has been mitigated through treatment from external medical/mental health practitioners and the safety of the individual and of the community is addressed.
Students enrolled at Emily Carr who wish to register for courses at another post-secondary institute must obtain a Letter of Permission from Student Services prior to enrolment.
The Library, which is part of the Ron Burnett Library + Learning Commons, aims to support innovation, research and learning across all areas of art, design and media. We are located on the second floor across from The Caf. Librarians and Library Staff are available to help you make the most of the Library’s resources and services. Whether it’s a question about scanning or how to approach a research project we encourage you to ask questions and seek out assistance.
The Library collection focuses on contemporary art, design and media, along with related subjects in art and design history. The Library’s diverse print collection includes books, exhibition catalogues, journals, artists’ books, artists’ files, and other special collections. The Library also has a collection of videos and DVDs, sound effects and vinyl. The Library’s website provides access to the library catalogue, a variety of journal article databases, online image collections, and other resources for research and inspiration.
To borrow materials from the Library, come see us with your student ID and we can activate your account. In an effort to reduce barriers to access, the library has removed fines from regular items. Fines will still be applied to reserve items, interlibrary loans, and lost items. Renewals and holds can be done online by logging into your library account. The after-hours book-drop is located just outside the library front doors and is accessible as long as the university is open. Reserve materials for courses are kept behind the Circulation Desk. The Library also provides interlibrary loan and media bookings.
Research assistance is available in person, by e-mail, or over the phone, or via the AskAway chat box.
The Emily Carr Students’ Union hosts a weekly free drop-in life drawing Fall and Spring semesters. The session has no instruction and you will have to bring your own drawing supplies. Check ecsu.ca for dates and times.
